You’ll really want to join us at scenic Bellthorpe with our host farmers Brendon and Kristie of Arakai Estate.
With 400 private acres the Estate is home to years-old trees such as Hoop Pine and Bunya Pine, as well as native vegetation that includes about 30 acres of recently planted mixed species of local rainforest cabinetry timbers. The Estate was awarded the 2012 Australian Forest Growers “Queensland Tree Farmer of the Year”.
In addition to assorted fruit trees the Estate’s good elevation, high rainfall and fertile soil is an excellent environment for growing tea. Now, with over five kilometres of tea plant hedges that allow for machine harvesting of the freshest tips, the plantation includes six different Japanese green tea varieties.
Having previously travelled to China and Japan on something of a tea odyssey for the family, the Estate’s first commercial harvest and operation of the processing factory was achieved in September 2015. The Estate entered samples in the first Australian International Tea Expo in Geelong, Victoria and its teas were awarded the ‘Best Australian Green Tea’, ‘’Best Australian Black Tea’, and the major prize of ‘Best Green Tea’ from the international field.
You will enjoy a walk through the rows of perfectly trimmed tea hedges, feel their texture, and follow them through to the processing plant to help your understanding of the journey from plant to pot.
And it will also be a memorable experience for you at our table when our celebrated Chef creates a unique sensory experience using the diverse flavours and aromas from these locally grown, award-winning teas.
Bring some friends, pull up a comfortable dining seat and join us for dinner with the Collins family at their lush green tea plantation in scenic Bellthorpe.
This is a People, Plates & Places special event where you will enjoy a relaxing five course long-table dinner inspired by the flavours and aromas of these award-winning teas. Our carefully selected wines have been matched perfectly to each course so as to enhance their flavours and those of the featured ingredients.
The best way to get to the farm is by our bus, which will pick you up and drop you off at Beerwah. The total cost of the tickets is $198 per person, including five courses, paired wines and the bus.
* Please note that a $6.00 payment processing fee also applies to each booking.
This event is produced in association with the Chemical Free Farmers Association.
